About Me
Hi, I am Gillian, an Australian, living and working in the Midlands of the UK. I have always been hooked on fantasy genres, and have been writing my own short stories since I was a teen. My discovery of the entire Chinese family of fantasy genres, including Wuxia, Xianxia, and Xuanhuan has led me to create this site. I hope you enjoy exploring this world as much as I do!

In the second part of this two part series, we cover the remaining seven moons of the Universe of Mortal Redemption cosmology – seven. because we include the elusive, fickle, paradoxical blue moon in this part.
We also look at what happens when a living being is born(?), not under the signs of any moons – and what that might mean.
| Month | Mortal Realm | Celestial Realm | Demon Realm | Devil Realm | Divine Realm | The Shadows Between |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| July | Azure Dragon Moon | Celestial Dragon Moon | Flame-Spine Moon | Serpent’s Eye Moon | Azure Revelation Moon | No Moons / No Births |
Children born beneath the Azure Dragon Moon are celebrated as protectors of rivers and storms. Villagers say they grow tall and restless, with a natural pull toward faraway journeys. Their strength is admired, yet their wanderlust makes them unreliable in family life. Some are praised as heroes, others feared as bringers of floods and tempests.
Celestials see this moon as a mark of imperial destiny. Births under it are guided toward authority, bureaucracy, or even the emperor’s court. Such children are praised for bearing the grandeur of dragons, yet their ambition is rarely modest. Many climb swiftly but forget humility, leaving behind envy and resentment in their wake.
Demons interpret this moon as fire in the blood. Flame-Spine children are said to be born with quick tempers and a fierce passion for life. They leap into fights before others have finished speaking, and they fall in love just as recklessly. Parents boast of their strength, yet many mourn their early graves.
This omen signals patience and dangerous insight. Serpent’s Eye children are believed to see secrets hidden from others, and to wait decades before acting. Elegant and watchful, they unsettle those around them. Such children may rise as brilliant tacticians, or they may become silent saboteurs, striking when others least expect it.
Among the Divines, this moon is said to unveil hidden truths. Children born beneath it are considered vessels of revelation. They often grow into prophets or visionaries, speaking aloud truths no one wishes to hear. Revered for their clarity, they are rarely loved, for honesty delivered without kindness makes few friends.
Travellers sometimes glimpse serpentine shadows coiling across the walls, vanishing when touched by light. No one is born here, yet the echo unsettles even the bravest.

| August | Koi Moon | Moon of Tranquil Waters | Redscale Moon | Moon of Bartered Flesh | Moon of Sacred Currents | No Moons / No Births |
The Koi Moon is tied to endurance and prosperity. Children born beneath it are thought to swim steadily against hardship, finding fortune through persistence. They are admired for patience, but sometimes criticised for lacking daring. Like koi circling in narrow ponds, their destiny may feel confined, yet their steady hearts carry whole families.
Celestials see this moon as a sign of serenity and harmony. Children born beneath it are prized as natural mediators, destined to calm disputes and preserve order. They are admired for balance, but risk being seen as passive, letting life carry them along. Their clarity may soothe others, but their stillness can frustrate.
Demons claim that Redscale children are marked by hunger for challenge. They are said to leap into combat with joy, testing themselves against impossible odds. Parents take pride in their fiery courage, but also fear the recklessness that shortens their lives. Such children rarely die quietly, and songs are often sung of their ends.
In the Devil Realm, this moon is dreaded. Children born beneath it are thought to embody bargains struck in blood and bone. From infancy they are bound into contracts, their lives traded like coin. Many grow into ruthless manipulators who understand exactly how much a body, or a soul, is worth.
Among the Divines, this moon marks the flow of spiritual power. Children born now are seen as carried by the tides of fate, bending circumstances to themselves with effortless ease. They inspire trust, yet others feel swept along by them, never quite in control. Sacred Current children walk as though the universe makes way.
In August, footsteps echo as if across water, even when the ground is dry. Some travellers swear they hear dripping, but no rivers flow in the dark.

| September | Harvest Moon | Moon of Divine Bounty | Feast Moon | Moon of Golden Contracts | Moon of Perfect Offering | No Moons / No Births |
Children born beneath the Harvest Moon are celebrated as bringers of prosperity. Villagers see them as destined to provide for their families and communities. Yet such expectations weigh heavily. Many Harvest children grow weary of being treated as the breadbasket of others’ hopes. Some rebel, while others are crushed beneath the burden.
Celestials consider this moon a promise of reward. Children born now are believed to rise into prosperity and high rank. They are admired for success, yet many grow entitled, expecting reward without effort. To Celestial courts they are blessings, but among peers they may be seen as spoiled and demanding.
Among demons, the Feast Moon signals indulgence. Feast children crave endlessly, whether for food, battle, or passion. They live fiercely, scattering joy and ruin in equal measure. Such children are admired for appetite, but feared for consuming everything around them. Parents laugh at their boldness, but quietly prepare to lose them early.
In the Devil Realm, Golden Contracts children are natural bargainers. From youth they charm others into trades and promises, often without knowing why. Families raise them carefully, for their words carry weight. They often rise to dizzying heights of influence, although their charm hides an iron instinct for profit and survival.
For the Divines, this moon is sacred. Children of the Perfect Offering are treated as living devotion, embodiments of surrender and sacrifice. They inspire reverence but also pity, for their lives rarely feel like their own. Some grow into saints, while others collapse under the unbearable weight of others’ expectations.
Travellers sometimes hear laughter and the clink of cups. No feast is ever found, and the sound fades if pursued.

| October | Chrysanthemum Moon | Moon of Enduring Grace | Rotleaf Moon | Moon of Withered Promise | Moon of Eternal Patience | No Moons / No Births |
The Chrysanthemum Moon is tied to dignity and remembrance. Children born now are believed to endure hardship with quiet strength. Communities admire them as steady figures, yet their lives often demand painful sacrifices. Many carry sorrow unspoken, standing as symbols of endurance while their private grief remains unseen.
Celestials prize this moon as a sign of refined longevity. Children born now are elegant, patient, and considered blessed by heaven. Yet enduring grace may calcify into aloof pride, leaving them admired but lonely. Families cherish them for refinement, although peers sometimes find them remote, as though they stand apart from mortal bonds.
Demons interpret this as destruction that clears ground for growth. Rotleaf children are said to carry decay wherever they go. Families both dread and admire them: dread, because their presence brings endings; admire, because new beginnings often follow. Many such children walk paths of ruin, celebrated for clearing the way for others.
This is treated as a warning in the Devil Realm. Withered Promise children are tied to oaths that collapse and contracts that crumble. They are raised under suspicion, expected to fail. Yet some embrace this doom and carve their own path, rising to power by shattering every chain placed upon them.
Divines revere this moon as exalted. Eternal Patience children are said to embody divine time itself. They achieve greatness not through action, but through endurance. Some spend centuries waiting for a single opportunity, achieving success when all others have tired and left the field. Patience is their strength, but also their burden.
Faces sometimes appear in October, flickering in the dark. They vanish the moment they are met directly, leaving travellers shaken.

| November | Mandarin Duck Moon | Moon of Loyal Harmony | Moon of the Bound Pair | Moon of Binding Vows | Moon of Soul Union | No Moons / No Births |
The Mandarin Duck Moon signals harmony and companionship. Children born now are believed to bring loyalty in love and friendship. They are celebrated for creating strong bonds, but also pitied if they cling too tightly. Some thrive in partnership, while others lose themselves, mistaking dependency for devotion.
Celestials praise this as an auspicious omen for marriage and social stability. Children born beneath it are said to be peacemakers, trusted to bind households and courts. Their loyalty is treasured, but can be manipulated by those who see kindness as weakness. Many become beloved, yet taken for granted.
Demons view this moon with wry humour. Bound Pair children love fiercely and fight just as hard. Families admire their passion, but also fear the chaos they bring to relationships. These children inspire loyalty and rivalry alike, adored by some, dreaded by others, always unforgettable.
Among Devils, Binding Vows children are bound into oaths from an early age. Their lives are marked by invisible chains of family and politics. Yet many turn these bindings into weapons, manipulating contracts until they control the very people who sought to control them.
Divines consider this moon sacred. Soul Union children are said to embody eternal companionship, reflections of cosmic pairs of stars and gods. They are rarely solitary, destined to walk in unity with others. Such unity, however, may demand sacrifice, for harmony is never free.
Shadows sometimes overlap and move together as one, even when the figures casting them stand far apart.

| December | Plum Blossom Moon | Moon of Purest Resolve | Frost-Bite Moon | Moon of Unforgiven Snow | Moon of Timeless Bloom | No Moons / No Births |
Plum Blossom children are said to bloom in hardship, carrying hope through winter. They are admired as symbols of perseverance, inspiring communities even when their own lives are marked by struggle. Families celebrate them as beacons, although such children often pay the price of resilience with loneliness and exhaustion.
Celestials view this moon as incorruptible will. Purest Resolve children are praised for unshakable determination, destined to rise in courts or cultivation. Yet their refusal to bend isolates them. Admirers call them strong; detractors call them stubborn. Many achieve greatness, but at the cost of connection to those around them.
Demons interpret this moon as ferocity sharpened by winter. Frost-Bite children are believed to thrive in hardship, cutting through obstacles with icy determination. They are admired as survivors, but feared for cruelty, for frost burns as deeply as flame. Families both boast of their strength and dread their coldness.
This is one of the most feared omens in the Devil Realm. Children born beneath it are believed to embody grudges that never melt. They carry vengeance across lifetimes, refusing reconciliation. Such children often rise high in courts, wielding their bitterness as a blade, but they leave a trail of ruin.
The Divines revere this as eternity flowering. Timeless Bloom children are considered untouched by decay, their beauty and grace enduring across centuries. To mortals, they seem unnervingly immortal. They inspire awe, but also fear, for to walk unchanged through generations is to live apart from the rest of existence.
The darkness feels colder in December. Breath mists where none should, and footsteps sound muffled as if beneath snow.
| Realm | Name/Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Mortal Realm | Moon of Reflection |
| Celestial Realm | Moon of Enlightened Silence |
| Demon Realm | The Laughing Moon |
| Devil Realm | The Watching Moon |
| Divine Realm | Moon Beyond Time |
| The Shadows Between | No Moons / No Births |
The Blue Moon is the anomaly of the realms. It appears when and where it chooses: sometimes in one realm, sometimes in several, sometimes in all, and occasionally not at all. Each interpretation differs. Mortals see reflection, Celestials silence, demons laughter, Devils a watching eye, and Divines eternity beyond time. Its unpredictability terrifies prophets, delights tricksters, and ensures no cosmology is ever complete.
What happens when a Blue Moon appears in only one realm, creating chaos for the others?
How might a prophecy tied to the Blue Moon fail entirely?
If a child’s fate is written by five moons, how does the sudden arrival of a Blue Moon alter everything?
Could the Blue Moon be tied to the Moonless Beast itself?
The Shadows Between has never known birth. Until one day, something spilled from the darkness.
It was not born in the mortal sense. It simply existed: a shifting lump with too many eyes, or none at all, depending who looked. Celestials called it an abomination. Demons wanted to fight it. Devils drafted contracts to cage it. Mortals worried for their cabbages.
The Divines said nothing.
When a five–realm delegation demanded its destruction, the Lady of the Shadows listened. The Beast, drooling and chewing her robe, looked up at her with wide eyes. She stroked its head and said only: “No.”
The silence that followed was long enough, one chronicler claimed, to pickle an immortal cucumber.
The realms named it The Moonless Beast. The Lady ignored them and called it Róng’er (绒儿), “Little Fluffy.”
Attempts to kill it always failed. Instead, it followed her like a puppy, flattening demons by sitting on them and eating prophecy scrolls for snacks. Worst of all, she brought it to High Council meetings, where it licked dignitaries, drooled on contracts, and once vomited ink on a Celestial Chancellor’s robes.
When one Lady vanished, the Beast did not. It reappeared at the feet of her successor, reborn as a baby, wide–eyed and clumsy. Each Lady of the Shadows inherits not only her mantle, but the chore of raising Róng’er all over again.
Prophets still declare it the end of the world. Yet it only wants belly rubs.
Perhaps that is prophecy enough.
